Three Former Red Lion Buildings Demolished to Make Room for 100 Parking Spaces
Demolition of an older portion of the former Red Lion Inn has reduced three buildings and a swimming pool to make way for a parking lot. The demolition will continue into January.

Union workers reach agreement with Jackson County
The Service Employees International Union Local 503 and Jackson County Employees Association Local 497 have come to a collective bargaining agreement with Jackson County for a three year deal.

“Hugs” Visits Asante’s Neonatal Unit
“Hugs From Heaven” visited the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center today to deliver 25 bags of clothes and goodies for the region’s littlest babies. The holiday bags were made possible by donations from the community and they were organized by Hannah Joseph.

State Says County’s Unemployment Rate Improved Slightly
According to the Oregon Employment Department, Josephine County’s total payroll employment fell by 220 in November. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate continues to slowly improve to reach 10.2 percent. Most of the month’s jobs losses were in leisure and hospitality, down 150 jobs. Construction, and health care and social assistance each lost 30 jobs over the month. Other services and state government also saw slight declines. Ramping up for the holiday season, retail trade added 50 positions in November. Local education rose by 20 from October.

Sequestration has No Effect on Secure Rural Schools Funding
Rural communities are in line to receive millions in additional Secure Rural Schools funding, after the White House determined that mandatory budget cuts known as “sequestration” will not apply to the program for payments going out early next year.
