School Exclusion Day is Wednesday
The Josephine County Public Health Department is alerting parents and guardians that immunization exclusion letters are being sent out indicating the child’s vaccine record needs to be updated or the child needs to be vaccinated. Children will not be able to attend school or child care starting February 20th if their records or file shows missing immunizations.
Council Workshop Features Candidate Interviews Tuesday
The Grants Pass City Council workshop, scheduled for Tuesday morning in council chambers because of the Monday holiday, will feature candidate interviews.
President’s Day
President’s Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February. Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, it is still officially called “Washington’s Birthday” by the federal government. Traditionally celebrated on Washington’s actual birthday, February 22nd, the holiday became known as President’s Day after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, creating more three day weekends for workers. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Lincoln and others, President’s Day is now viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. Presidents.
Crater Renaissance Academy Likely Closed for the School Year
A large portion of Crater High School in Central Point will remain unusable for the remainder of the school year after a water main broke last weekend and flood the school.
Providence CEO Accepts V.P. Position with Kaiser Permanente

Station Takes Stand Against Professional Vagrants
In a further attempt to bring attention to what he calls the “Profession Vagrant” problem in Grants Pass, KAJO/KLDR owner and General Manager, Carl Wilson, announced a policy change yesterday. Wilson stated that the radio stations will no longer read public service announcements which solicit tents, tarps and sleeping bags. “These items only serve to enable Professional Vagrants to linger in the Grants Pass area”. The radio stations will continue to help organizations solicit coats, gloves and hats, as these items are often requested by those individuals and families with genuine need
