
GP teen takes second in national oratory contest
A Grants Pass teenager has just earned second place in a national oratory contest.
16-year-old Alexa Sleadd placed second in the Jane B. Thompson National Right to Life Oratory Contest. The national finals were held on June 26 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
County to look at tickets for not paying user fees at parks
If signs at Josephine County parks don’t compel visitors to pay to pay either the $2 day-use fee or a $25 season pass, a ticket might.
The county commissioners voiced approval to taking a page from Douglas County’s enforcement ordinance and treating non-compliance as a violation that would include a citation to circuit court, like a traffic violation.

The Josephine County Commissioners will spend the time until next summer working on a new county recreational mining ordinance, one that, if approved, would be in time for next summer.
Such an ordinance would be for small-scale mining operations on streams within county property only.
County to help in long-standing Galice access issue
The Josephine County Commissioners will offer their hand in helping resolve a long-standing dispute between two property owners in the Galice area.
The issue resurfaced when Sharon McCall approached Commissioner Sandi Cassanelli this week and said she had been denied access to the boat ramp to the Rogue River near the Galice Resort.
Grants Pass motorcyclist in RVA after late-night crash
A Grants Pass man is in critical condition after he was injured following a late-night crash at the intersection of Northeast Seventh and E street last night.
21-year-old Justin Leair was transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford with what has been described as multiple injuries.
A preliminary investigation showed that Leair was traveling at a high rate of speed on Seventh when he struck a Dodge Dakota truck driven by 52-year-old Frederick Gaines of Gold Hill, who was driving westbound on E Street.

Fire Season Underway
A couple of fires in the Ashland area yesterday got a head start on the official fire season which began today.
One home was lost on Sherman Street in Ashland yesterday afternoon and firefighters had battled a one acre grass fire on Meyers Creek Road between Ashland and Talent earlier in the day.
MVA Takes Out Power Pole on East Evans Creek
A motor vehicle accident on East Evans Creek Road just outside of Rogue River Wednesday afternoon took out a power pole, leaving wires on the ground and about 1,600 customers in the Wimer area without electricity while the lengthy repairs were made.
