Jackson County Judge Ron Grensky ruled against the state in its attempt to assert ownership rights to a stretch of the upper Rogue River, affecting some 3,000 private properties.

Nearly 120 attend UGB open houses; next step is 7/14 meeting
About 120 people attended two open houses that presented alternatives for the upcoming required update of the Grants Pass Urban Growth Boundary last month.
Most people polled at the open houses said they preferred alternatives where the needed 1,400 buildable acres are dispersed around the UGB. Alternatives that placed most of the buildable land in the southeast corner of the city were the least-favored alternatives.
Commissioners re-grants $25K toward new Fairgrounds sign
The Josephine County Commissioners re-granted $25,000 toward the upgrade of the electronic reader sign at the Josephine County Fairgrounds this morning.
The Commissioners had approve $25,000 in economic development funds toward a sign upgrade at the Fairgrounds in June 2009, but it wasn’t spent because the Fairgrounds wasn’t able to come up with matching funds.
Commissioners approve contract for runway overlay project
The Josephine County Commissioners unanimously approved a contract with Knife River Corporation for overlay work on the runway at Grants Pass Airport this morning.
County Public Works Director Rob Brandes said Knife River plans to start the overlay project by the end of July and that he was pleased with Knife River’s work on the A Street overlay project two years ago.
City Council to changes to sanitation service in August
The Grants Pass City Council will consider three possible changes to its franchise agreement with two sanitation services, Southern Oregon Sanitation and Allied Waste Services.
Ashland's Fireworks Ban Worked
Ashland’s first fireworks-free Independence Day seems to have been successful. Police issued only four citations for the use of illegal fireworks Sunday, and none on Saturday. There were no reports of fires or injuries related to fireworks according to the police department.
The Ashland City Council banned most fireworks in the city last fall after fireworks ignited two fires in 2009.
Jackson County Housing Authority Bans Smoking
Beginning September first smoking will be banned at 1,000 Jackson County Housing authority low-income apartments.
Extreme Speeding = 100+MPH = $1,000+
Extreme speeding seemed rampant over the holiday weekend when Oregon State Troopers cited four drivers for exceeding 100 miles per hour. The age of the driver or type of vehicle did not seem to make any difference.
