Onion Mountain Fire Now Estimated at 50 Acres
A wildfire erupted Saturday morning in the area of Onion Mountain about 25 miles west of Grants Pass. The fire, which was estimated at about 15 acres Saturday morning, grew to about 50 acres late Saturday evening according to a public affairs officer from the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Grants Pass office.

Onion Mountain Fire Being Held at 25 Acres
A fire was reported on U.S. Forest Service Land Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in the area of Onion Mountain. The Forest Service immediately dispatched a contingent of smoke jumpers and rappelers to make the initial assault on the fire. Significant air support is being provided by heavy tankers and helicopters.

The Happy Camp complex of fires continues its growth, primarily southward, but firefighters have pushed containment to 50 percent.

Grants Pass City Update
The city of Grants Pass now has an easy and efficient way for utility users to drop off their utility payments. There is a new drop box in the parking lot between City Hall and the County Building. It is now ready for use.

ODOT to Study I-5 Viaduct in Medford; Re-Route or Rebuild
The Oregon Department of transportation is planning to invest as much as $4 million to study ways to beef up the I-5 viaduct through Medford or provide other options for routing traffic in case it fails in an earthquake or requires upgrades.

Walraven To be Freed
30-year-old Trevor Walraven will be released from prison in the next 45 days after Judge Timothy Gerking cut his 30-year-sentence in half Friday at the end of a two-day 2nd-look hearing in Josephine County Circuit Court.
