
Commissioners allow video cameras on JCT buses
If you ride a Josephine County Transit bus in the near future, you might smile, too. You’ll be on camera.
The Josephine County Commissioners approved the purchase of a digital audio-video recording system for each of JCT’s buses this morning.
Oak Flat Friday Update
Yesterday Oak Flat firefighters burned out unburned fuel between the fire’s edge and containment lines west of Sam Brown Campground and in the northwest corner along Chrome Ridge. All burning remained well within established control lines, and generated smoke columns visible from many parts of county.
Medford Man to Petition Supreme Court
Juan Pineda-Moreno plans to petition the U.S. Supreme Court alleging his fourth amendment rights were violated when police installed mobile tracking devices on his vehicle prior to arresting him on drug charges.
Oregon Courts concluded the police actions were no more invasive than a child entering his property to retrieve a stray ball.
Cougars at Crater Lake
If Crater Lake National Park is on your Labor Day weekend plans officials there have posted advisory signs after a spate of cougar sightings.
There have been three reports of the mountain lions in the past two weeks, one unconfirmed near the Mazama Campground on August 15th. The next week a group camping at the Lightning Springs campground saw a cougar they described as hard to scare off.
Oak Flat Fire 73% Contained
Oak Flat firefighters have scaled back plans to burn out the upper Briggs Creek basin because of a short period of dry weather.
They will begin firing operations early today focusing on tying the fire into containment lines protecting private land near Sam Brown Campground on the east, and a small area in the northwest, near Chrome Ridge.
Rock Point Bridge Closes Tuesday
The historic Rock Point Bridge will close for up to eight weeks beginning Tuesday morning to refinish the concrete bridge deck, pave the approaches and complete other finish work.
Fill the Boot Today
If you are commuting in Grants Pass today you are apt to encounter a firefighter, doing what they do best, responding.
Today, however, the firefighters are responding to Jerry’s kids as they man Sixth and Seventh Streets at the G Street intersection from eight this morning to three this afternoon giving drivers and pedestrians alike the opportunity to drop their loose change into the firemen’s boot.
Touey sentenced to 70 months in prison
31-year-old Jarrett Lee Touey, who was connected to a number of thefts in the Grants Pass area, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 70 months in prison in Josephine County Circuit Court by Judge Thomas Hull today.
Robbers wake up couple during burglary
A middle-aged couple on in the Oak Street neighborhood of Medford was awakened by two young men with weapons demanding money and prescription drugs early this morning.
The robbers, who were in the couple’s bedroom, wore masks and had weapons.
Fire restrictions still in effect in new month
Though we’ve crossed over into September and cooler weather has already begun, fire managers in Southern Oregon remind citizens that fire danger remains high to extreme and fire restrictions remain in effect through the Labor Day weekend.
