GP Police Snared Man for Getting into Altercations with Restaurant Patrons
Grants Pass Police arrested a man for getting into verbal and physical altercations with several people at a popular Mexican restaurant near the Parkway. According to the Police Department, officers responded to a reported disturbance at Si Casa Flores in the 200-block of NE Beacon Drive on Saturday at 7:35 p.m.. Police said 45-year-old William Earl Hill engaged in tumultuous behavior by getting into verbal altercations with restaurant patrons, asking them to step outside. One verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation where Hill punched a man in the face, causing pain and injury. He also reportedly hit a woman. Officers said they reviewed video footage of the incident that showed Hill to be the aggressor. They said it appeared that he was highly intoxicated at the time. William Hill tried to get away in a sport utility vehicle, but he was stopped by police a short distance away from the restaurant. He was placed into custody and lodged in jail for 4th-Degree Assault and Disorderly Conduct. He was also trespassed from Si Casa Flores.

OSP Looking for Idaho Man Who Assaulted Another Man at Store in Murphy
The Oregon State Police was looking for an Idaho man who allegedly assaulted another man at a convenience store in Murphy before fleeing the scene. OSP reports troopers responded to the incident at Pinnacle 365 at the corner of Williams Highway and New Hope Road on Saturday at about 12:45 a.m.. Troopers said they were dispatched for two men fighting inside the store. They contacted the victim who had minor injuries and wished to press charges against 38-year-old Jason Allen Eldred of Spirit Lake, Idaho. The suspect had fled the scene prior to the arrival of OSP, but he was identified by the victim. According to the report, Eldred also spoke with the victim's girlfriend, which was a violation of a no-contact order. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jason Eldred is encouraged to dial *OSP.

OSP Arrested Man on Local Warrant while Investigating Vandalism of Pickup
The Oregon State Police arrested a man on a local warrant while investigating a weekend report of vandalism to a disabled vehicle on Redwood Highway near Wonder. According to OSP, troopers responded to the incident on US Highway 199 at Elliot Creek Road on Friday at 6:52 p.m.. Troopers said they responded to reports that a disabled Ford F-250 pickup that was in the process of being vandalized. They contacted 29-year-old Austin Lee Buell who was removing tires from the vehicle. An investigation determined that the pickup belonged to Buell's mother. Further investigation revealed that Buell was wanted on a Josephine County misdemeanor warrant for 4th-Degree Assault. He was lodged at the Josephine County Jail and the pickup was returned to his mother.

Grants Pass Police Nabbed Man for Stealing Merchandise from Home Depot
Grants Pass Police arrested a man for stealing merchandise from Home Depot over the weekend. The Police Department reports officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at the store on NE Mill Street on Friday shortly after 9 p.m.. Police said Home Depot loss prevention observed 29-year-old Austin Glenn Ganey stuffing items in his pants and bypassing all points of sale on his way out of the store. He was detained by security guards until officers arrived on scene and placed him into custody, finding him with a small quantity of methamphetamine. Austin Ganey was lodged at the Josephine County Jail for 3rd-Degree Theft and the narcotics violation. His corrections officer declined to place him on a detainer, but advised him to report in this morning.

One Person Hurt in Weekend Crash on Rogue River Highway near GP
One person was hurt in a two-vehicle collision on Rogue River Highway at the start of the weekend. The Oregon State Police reports troopers and emergency crews responded to the head-on crash on Highway 99 near Brock Lane on Friday shortly after 9 p.m.. Troopers said an investigation indicated 29-year-old Patrick James Lee of Grants Pass was driving a Volkswagen sedan south on the highway when he swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid a deer and crashed into a northbound Hyundai Tucson driven by 26-year-old Elijah David Phillips of Grants Pass. One minor injury was reported, but no one was transported to the hospital. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were hauled into town by Goodfellas Towing. No citations were issued.

GP Police Jailed Man for Multiple Crimes after Downtown Road Rage Incident
Grants Pass Police jailed a man for felony and misdemeanor crimes following a road rage incident in the downtown area. The Police Department reports officers arrested 24-year-old Jason Patrick Keene for the incident that occurred at the corner of NE 6th and A streets on Friday at about 1:25 p.m.. Police said Keene and another motorist were involved in a road rage incident when Keene displayed a firearm and pointed it at the other man's vehicle, which was occupied by a total of four people. They said the act placed the occupants in fear of imminent serious injury or death. Fortunately, no one was hurt. According to the report, the victim motorist followed the suspect to the 1300-block of F Street -- which was later determined to be a residence owned by the suspect's grandmother. That's where he was contacted and placed into custody. Jason Keene was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and four counts of Menacing. The firearm was seized and placed into evidence.

Deputies Snared Pair & Recovered Stolen Car after Weekend Chase in Williams
The Josephine County Sheriff's Office arrested two people and recovered a stolen vehicle after a weekend pursuit in the Williams area. The Sheriff's Office reports deputies arrested 47-year-old Marc Robert Edwards and 46-year-old Danielle Stanford near the corner of Water Gap and East Fork roads on Friday shortly before midnight. Deputies said Edwards was reported to be driving a 2011 Mazda sedan at high speeds on East Fork Road, which prompted a response from the Sheriff's Office. Upon contact with Edwards and Stanford, it was determined the car had been reported stolen by the Medford Police Department. Marc Edwards was transported to Grants Pass and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Attempt to Elude Police and Driving While Suspended along with an out-of-county warrant. He was being held without bail. Danielle Stanford was also charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, but she was cited to appear in court and then released. The Sheriff's Office notified MPD that the stolen car was recovered and towed into Grants Pass.

GP Police Arrested Woman for Harassing another Camper at Downtown Park
Grants Pass Police arrested a city park camper for physically harassing another camper in the downtown area at the start of the weekend. According to the Police Department, officers responded to the incident at Debo Park on SW G Street on Friday at 3:50 p.m.. Police said 33-year-old Morgan Delin Weber subjected another woman to offensive physical contact by grabbing her on her right arm in an aggressive manner. The victim was in pain, but she refused medical attention. Weber reportedly walked away from officers after being told she was under arrest. She walked into traffic and disrupted the flow of numerous vehicles before being placed into custody near a neighborhood market. Weber was lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Harassment, Disorderly Conduct and Escape. She was also trespassed from Debo Park for the next 30 days.

IVFD and AMR Responded to Three Weekend Crashes, But No One was Hurt
The Illinois Valley Fire District responded to at least three motor vehicle accidents over the weekend, but there were no injuries reported to any of the occupants. Late Friday afternoon, IVFD and American Medical Response were dispatched to a two-vehicle rollover crash at Stillwater Way and Rockydale Road. Traffic was reduced to one lane while the scene was active, but no one was hurt. The involved vehicles were removed from the roadway and towed. On Friday night, IVFD and AMR responded to a two-vehicle wreck near the corner of Redwood Highway and East River Street in Cave Junction. East River was reduced to one lane while the scene was active, but no one was hurt. At least one of the vehicles was towed. On Saturday afternoon, IVFD and AMR were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover crash in the 4600-block of Reeves Creek Road near Selma. No one was hurt and the vehicle owner arranged for their own tow.

Unattended Open Burn Spread to Surrounding Vegetation before Being Doused
An open burn that was left unattended overnight in the New Hope area spread to surrounding vegetation, two trees and destroyed a stack of firewood. On Sunday at 5:38 a.m., Rural Metro Fire Department responded to the escaped burn on Fish Hatchery Road. Quick action by the occupant with a garden hose and a prompt call to 9-1-1 got firefighters on scene to assist with containment and overhaul. The fire came within just a few feet of a shop building, but no structural damage was found. Rural Metro officials said even though the 2023 fire season ended on October 13th, moisture in natural fuels remains low due to insufficient rainfall. They said escaped burn piles are possible for property owners who choose to dispose of woody waste in this manner. Please burn responsibly.

Applications Being Accepted for One Position on GP Parks Advisory Committee
Applications are being accepted for an open position on the Grants Pass Parks Advisory Committee. This is a three-year appointment. The purpose of this committee is to review and make recommendations to the Grants Pass City Council related to the needs and locations for new parkland and trails along with park planning, allocation of recreation resources between users, preservation of park resources and funding. The City Council desires to have a balance of viewpoints and demographic representation on the panel including individuals with interest or experience representing athletic leagues, individuals knowledgeable in natural resource preservation, people involved with recurring park events, frequent park users, and individuals who use family-friendly park play facilities. Applications are available at the City Administration Office at 101 NW A Street or online at "grantspassoregon.gov/committee-application. Completed applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, December 1st.

GP Police Officers & Firefighters Logged Active Week of Community Protection

Grants Pass police officers and firefighters logged an active week of duty while protecting the city, its residents and visitors. According to the Weekly Report filed by Grants Pass City Manager Aaron Cubic, police officers responded to a total of 670 calls for service as well as 278 officer-initiated calls last week that resulted in 39 arrests, 42 citations, 54 warnings and three highly-intoxicated people being lodged at the Sobering Center. The Community Response Team (CRT) made a total of 167 contacts with potential trouble-makers while arresting five people, citing 24 more and warning 30 others. The CRT unit also trespassed 18 individuals, posted 114 new transient camps and removed trash from 17 campsites. Grants Pass Fire & Rescue responded to a total of 97 calls last week including 36 for emergency medical service, four reports of fire or smoke, 15 lift assists, seven rescue situations, two assists to other agencies and six false alarms. The 9-1-1 Dispatch Center fielded a total of 989 emergency calls in addition to 864 calls for non-emergency service.
