Alleged 7-Eleven robber commits suicide in jail
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reports a man who allegedly robbed a Central Point 7-Eleven in late March committed suicide while incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail.

Citizens both lauded and expressed disappointment about the defeat of the Criminal Justice Levy during the Josephine County Commissioners Weekly Business Session, but commissioners seemed focused on finding a solution for the continued lack of criminal justice services in the county.

Wyden & Merkley Push Amendment Forcing Interior Department Payment to Oregon Timber Counties
Today, Oregon Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden introduced an amendment to the Farm Bill that would require the Department of the Interior to pay 18 Oregon timber counties nearly $2 million in overdue Secure Rural Schools payments within seven days of passage of the Farm Bill.

Caution Advised for Bear Camp Road Travelers
BLM land managers are advising motorists to exercise caution when considering traveling Bear Camp Road, and even to avoid the road the next few day. A storm has moved into the region and has dropped snow in the higher elevations including one to two inches on the scenic route last night. More is forecast for tonight.

An Eagle Point man is safe after he became upset and left the adult foster care facility where he resided. John C. Mattos has a brain injury, one lung and limited mobility.

The Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians lost their newly-purchased barn Tuesday at approximately 5:00 p.m. to fire.

Missing and Endangered Eagle Point Man
Tuesday afternoon the Jackson County Sheriff’s office was notified that John C. Mattos, 39, 5 feet 11 inches tall and about 180 pounds, was missing from an adult foster home in Eagle Point. According to the foster care center, Mattos has a brain injury, one lung, and limited mobility.

Money Measures Voted Down; City Charter Amendments Pass
Both money measures went down to defeat in Tuesday’s special election with similar percentages. A heavy voter turnout saw 51.69 percent of voters casting a ballot.
