Oak Flat Fire Smokes, but Doesn't Expand
The Oak Flat fire was responsible for a large column of smoke yesterday, but the smoke was coming from burn outs firefighters were conducting eliminating fuel between the blaze and the fire line.

Council decides not to adopt Redwood Highway alternative
In its longest meeting since last year, the Grants Pass City Council decided not to approve Alternative A, the set of improvements to the portion of Redwood Highway between Allen Creek Road and the highway’s beginning that’s been approved by the Oregon Department of Transportation.

In addition, the council directed city staff to work with ODOT to find alternative options to Alternative A.

Torres pleads guilty, gets more than 11 years in prison
A Medford man who fled to Pennsylvania to escape child sex abuse charges but was caught through a Facebook group, pleaded guilty in Medford today.

35-year-old Laramie Torres pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree rape and was sentenced in Jackson County Circuit Court.

The Jackson County Sheriff Department is looking for clues and looking for help in investigating two suspicious deaths and a pair of arsons that occurred in the Cascade Mountains on Dead Indian Memorial Road in September 2008.
